As a screening tool, the HVS aims to provide an overview of a child's developmental level with regard to their language-analytical and auditory-kinesthetic perception skills. These are associated with language development delays/disorders, dyslalia, phonological disorders, and hearing impairments.

A total of seven subtests are available, each normed for the 5-7 year age range: Auditory Attention Span, Expressive Initial Sound Analysis, Syllable Segmentation, Phonemic Differentiation, Articulomotor Skills, Word Family Recognition, Rhyming Word Recognition, and Auditory Attention. Some subtests can also be administered to 4-year-olds. The complete screening takes approximately 20 minutes, depending on participation.

Mission: Screening in preschool age, assessment of early intervention needs for individual skills as well as objective monitoring of therapy success, prevention of dyslexia.
